چکیده

We provide a new mathematical model for strategic traac management, formulated and analyzed as a mathematical program with equilibrium constraints (MPEC). The model includes two types of control (upper-level) variables, which may be used to describe such traac management actions as traac signal setting, network design, and congestion pricing. The lower-level problem of the MPEC describes a traac equilibrium model in the sense of Wardrop, in which the control variables enter as parameters in the travel costs. We consider a (small) variety of model settings, including xed or elastic demands, the possible presence of side constraints in the traac equilibrium system, and representations of traac ows and management actions in both link{route and link{node space. For this model, we also propose and analyze a descent algorithm. The algorithm utilizes a new reformulation of the MPEC into a constrained, locally Lipschitz minimization problem in the product space of controls and traac ows. The reformulation is based on the Minty parameterization ((Min67]) of the graph of the normal cone operator for the traac ow polyhedron. Two immediate advantages of making use of this reformulation are that the resulting descent algorithm can be operated and established to be convergent without requiring that the travel cost mapping is monotone, and without having to ever solve the lower-level equilibrium problem. We provide example realizations of the algorithm, establish their convergence, and interpret their workings in terms of the traac network.

The facility location problem is a strategic decision-making for a supply chain, which determines the profitability and sustainability of its components. This paper deals with a scenario where two supply chains, consisting of a producer, a number of distribution centers and several retailers provided with similar products, compete to maintain their market shares by opening new distribution cent...

In this paper, we propose an algorithm base on decomposition technique for solvingthe mixed integer linear multiplicative-linear bilevel problems. In actuality, this al-gorithm is an application of the algorithm given by G. K. Saharidis et al for casethat the rst level objective function is linear multiplicative. We use properties ofquasi-concave of bilevel programming problems and decompose th...

A global descent heuristic for bilevel network pricing

We present a method for solving bilevel revenue management problem on networks. In this problem, a network manager seeks to set link prices optimally on a network so as to maximize revenue, where the users’ response to the prices, their route choices, is given by a secondary, parametric optimization problem. This is an important special case of the general bilevel programming problem. We demons...

Bilevel Programming: Appli- Cations, Blp:applications

Bilevel programming (see Bilevel programming: formulation) is ideally suited to model situations where the decision maker does not have full control over all decision variables. Five such situations are described in this article. The rst example involves the improvement of a road network through either capacity expansion , traac signals synchronization, vehicle guidance systems, etc. While mana...
